Ayr make League Cup Semi-Final, Scottish Cup Third round draw also made

Main Stand at St Mirren Park

Last night Ayr United defeated Saint Mirren of The SPL in Paisley to book a place in the last four of the League Cup.

With Kilmarnock beating the Second Division outfit, East Fife, it has been set up perfectly for tomorrow's draw. The teams that will be in the hat for the Scottish Communities League Cup are Ayr United, Kilmarnock, Falkirk (who beat Dundee United at Tannadice on penalties) and either Hibernian or Celtic, who face each other tonight.

United beat the buddies to secure a first national semi-final since the 2001-02 season, in which Ayr went on to reach the League Cup final but lost in the Semi-final of the Scottish Cup. Chris Smith, who had been ruled out of the side that were convincingly beaten at home by Dundee on Saturday, due to a clash with 'keeper Kevin Cuthbert against Livingston in the previous week which left him concussed, converted an Eddie Malone free-kick in the 81st minute of the game, right in front Ayr's impressive 1,200+ supporters who made the journey to Paisley to see Ayr United's first trip to the New Saint Mirren Park and third SPL scalp of the season so far.

The draw was also made for the Third Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup, were Ayr United will host Third Division club Montrose at Somerset Park.
